PalaceChat Beta
Read me first: which file to download, what to know before installing, and how to tell us about a bug.
This software is in BETA: use it at your own risk. PalaceChat is FREE.
Before installing, close PalaceChat and back up your prop bag, the PropBag.bundle folder:
- Windows:
Documents\PalaceChat\PropBag.bundle - macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/PalaceChat/PropBag.bundle - Linux:
~/.local/share/PalaceChat/PropBag.bundle
PalaceChat can also do it for you: Preferences, Prop bag backup.

Staying up to date
From PalaceChat 5.0.291.4 on, turn on Help > Notify Me About New Betas (it stays off unless you turn it on). PalaceChat checks right away and tells you whenever a new beta comes out, with its notes, and Update Now downloads the right installer for your computer. A new release always comes first.
Everything new since the last release is in the beta notes for Windows, macOS and Linux.
Windows
- This is the Full edition: WebP and animated props, videos as room backgrounds and avatars, the built-in translator, nametag decorations and everything else we have been building, free for the community we love.
- Rooms with web content (YouTube players, games and other web pages) use Microsoft WebView2. Windows 11 and an up-to-date Windows 10 already have it; if yours does not, PalaceChat tells you what it is and where to get it.
- PalaceChat is not signed yet. When you run the installer, Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": click More info and then Run anyway. Some antivirus programs also flag a brand-new installer they have not seen before; if yours removes it, restore it from the quarantine.
macOS
- A native Mac app, no Parallels or any other virtualization needed, with the same features as Windows: scripts, web content, games and props. New features land on Mac and Windows together.
- The first time you open it, macOS may stop it because it was downloaded from the internet. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway.
Linux
- A native Linux app, no Wine needed: scripts, web content, games and props all work.
- One thing still works differently from Windows and Mac: files offered for download from inside a web page in a room do not save yet. We keep working on it.
- Everything else lands on all three platforms together.
Found a bug?
- Check the beta notes first: a newer beta may already fix it.
- The fastest way to tell us is Help > Report a Bug… in PalaceChat. It attaches a short anonymous log of recent activity (no chat messages, no passwords, no personal information) and sends it to us in one click.
- Or email alexandra@elitepalaces.com with what happened, screenshots if you can, and the steps to make it happen again.
Your feedback is what makes PalaceChat better for you and for everyone who runs into the same problem. Thank you!
